It’s probably pretty boring to write a blog post about my homework, but I really had fun doing this and wanted to post it somewhere. This typography assignment was to pick five words from a list and make them expressive – basically try to express the word’s meaning by manipulating the type, using only back and white. This reminded me a lot of rebus puzzles – but of course expressive type is a lot, lot simpler. I’m not sure how successful I was. It was really fun to decide on fonts and how exactly to make the word happen.

Thanks! We use InDesign in class, but I used Inkscape at home to make all of these. It’s free and pretty handy: inkscape.org
