Eagle vs. Shark
This may be my new favorite movie of all time. I’ve been deb
ating writing about it, since no one I know has watched it (although they are all about to because I keep on talking about how awesome it is and how they should watch it and they should rent/netflix it right now). So I’m going to try to express my love for it without giving anything away. I’ve read a lot of reviews about it, and it got a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but I think this all comes from a misunderstanding of the film.
That’s right. I understand it. People who don’t like it clearly have no depth.
Here are peoples’ main issues with it:
1. It’s too much like Napoleon Dynamite/the characters are there to be laughed at, not laughed with.
–I’d disagree. I can see the similarities, but I also think these characters are a lot closer to real people than those in Napoleon Dynamite (though I did know one kid in high school who was exactly like him…). They’re meaner, they cry more, etc. When you laugh at these characters, it’s because of the awkward moments that everyone’s had, which I think makes them even more endearing.
2. Why does she like him? He’s so mean.
– Em gee, people. Don’t you understand that sometimes people like people because they see things in them that others don’t, and they have this urge to make that nicer person come out? Obviously only to a certain degree. But I think that here, Lily understands why he’s mean and wants to help him (even though she very clearly thinks he’s a total dickweed at points). It’s about people, people.
I hope that didn’t ruin the movie for you if you are one of those people that I have been trying to force to watch it. It also has these positive attributes:
1. Really good music
2. Use of a child without having Adorable Child (TM) moments.
3. New Zealand!
4. The line “I guess I’ve gotta keep creating or I’ll just die.”

I will be getting it in the mail in a couple of days…I’m so excited!
Hi, I don’t know you, but i found your entry by doing a search for quotes from this movie. Its my new obsession!!! One of my favorite things about the movie is the brother-sister relationship between Damon and Lily. Its so nerdy and sweet. And when Jarrod plays Damon and Lily’s travel game with her at the end…. i get warm fuzzies. IMHO, this sort of “Kiwi Humor” as I call it, is the new up and coming thing. Its just something that hasn’t come into its own in popular culture yet. But I think its on its way!
I totally agree with you on the music. I’ve put it on my mysapce! I just wish the soundtrack wasn’t like $35!
Ok, that’s all for my totally random, out-of-the-blue, stranger comment on your blog. Just know there are those of us out here that LOVE this movie. And who have watched enough movies to not compare it to NAPOLEON DYNAMITE.
